 Bauhaus 2009 at ITB 2008
This presentation was created by Gregor Sauer and Stefan Kraus and the new Bauhaus TransferzentrumDESIGN. "We wanted to show that 'Bauhaus' is still alive. The moving images permanently create new collages from historic images of the Bauhaus times in Weimar. The unity of art and technology is still fascinating to us [...] It is a great feeling to have the worlds best software for this type of installations available - which originated from a arts and media systems collaboration project here at the Bauhaus University. "
Audiovisual Performance “The Age of Paper”
When dutch composer Jan Trützschler asked MXZEHN to develop a video performance for his latest piece “The Age of Paper” it was clear that they had to come up with an extraordinary concept. While the visuals should be created live with a distorted Panasonic WJ-MX10 the signal itself had to be masked and placed onto a dozen wooden plates that were dangling in between the musical performers. The VJ Installation VAPOR (Video augmented pieces of reality) was developped by the participants of Stefan Kraus’ “Media in Space” class. The aim was to fuse space, object, sound and projection into one spacial experience that could be performed live by different VJ teams. The installation was shown at the Shining Festival 2007 and the Rundgang 2007. Audiovisual installation “On the Road”
This three-screen installation was comissioned by the ministery of transportation of Thuringia for the exhibition “Stadtland Thüringen” that reflects on 10 years of urban developpment in the area. Driven by an interactive soundpiece by Marc Sauter MXWendler is used to mash up several layers of high resolution photographs into an artitic interpretation of the main arterial road of Thuringia –the A4. The Installation makes excessive use of MXWendlers expression linking feature and blending modes and is shown on three 42” LCD screens. Stefan Kraus is teaching Interaction Design at the Faculty of Design of Bauhaus-University Weimar and is known as a founding member of higly acclaimed VJ Crews genericPreset and MXZEHN. Working at the university gives him opportunity to introduce new talents to the pleasures of live video performance and allows him to push the boundaries of live visuals without the constrains of commercial exigence. With his MXZEHN partner Bahadir Hamdemir he is known for radical visuals that are inspiration to many of the upcoming talents around Bauhaus-University. MXZEHN prefers MXWendler for its flexibility that allows unheared resolutions even from laptop computers and thus gives a whole new way of working with live video without loosing the responsivness and stability of traditional video hardware.
