Immersive room with projection onto walls and floor
Media servers · Software · Installation

The media server for spaces that have to keep running.

Immersive rooms, museums, trade-fair and brand architecture, video mapping: one FXServer drives up to 16 projectors, StageDesigner handles mapping and soft edge, and the schedule runs the installation automatically. Developed, built and supported in Germany since 2006.

The principle

One system, many surfaces

One FXServer takes all projectors, displays and LED processors of a room on its outputs. Hardware EDID management keeps the output configuration fixed, even when a projector is disconnected or replaced. Soft edge, warping and masks live in the software. The schedule starts the show at opening time and switches the projectors off in the evening. When one device is not enough, several FXServers run frame-synchronously on the same network, driven by one schedule.

Several FXServers run in sync on one network and connect schedule, control and cameras with projectors for wall, floor, ceiling and facade CONTROL Schedule 10:00 to 18:00 Lighting desk · DMX, Art-Net Sensor, button · OSC Camera · NDI, SDI ONE NETWORK FXSERVER 1 up to 16 outputs FXSERVER 2 up to 16 outputs FXSERVER n add as many as needed frame-synchronous frame-synchronous SURFACES Walls · 4 to 8 projectors Floor · 2 to 4 projectors Ceiling, exhibit, object Facade, LED wall One room: one device · large rooms and facades: several FXServers, in sync on one network, one schedule

Media are stored locally on the server; the playlist only refers to them. A new film for the special exhibition is swapped in without rebuilding the show. No cloud, no licence server, no internet required.

Why MXWendler

From concept to opening day.

One partner: we build the hardware, write the software, plan the projectors, install, align and keep the installation running. If a wall stays dark on a Monday morning, you reach the people who built the system.

13 years of Genius Loci Weimar: facades on a schedule

MXWendler has been the festival's technical partner since 2012. In 2025 "Faust – Light and Shadow" ran on historic facades over several evenings: mapping on site, projectors switched per cue, the show automated on a schedule. All from FXServers with StageDesigner.

Frequently asked

Answered briefly

How many projectors does one media server drive?

One FXServer provides 4 to 16 outputs from a single device, each up to 4K. Soft edge and black level join the projections into one image. For larger rooms several FXServers run in sync: the Lighthouse Berlin uses 5 servers with 40 projectors.

Does the installation run automatically?

Yes. The schedule in StageDesigner starts and stops the show at fixed times, switches the projectors with it if you wish and reports the status to the network. At Genius Loci Weimar the shows have run several times a day, fully automated, for years.

What happens after a power cut?

The server boots automatically, loads the project and resumes the schedule. Hardware EDID management keeps the output configuration, so no projector slips out of the mapping.

Can the server talk to a lighting desk, sensors or building control?

Yes. DMX, Art-Net, MIDI, OSC, TCP/UDP, HTTP and JavaScript are available in every server. Buttons, motion sensors, tablets and lighting desks trigger cues, and the server in turn controls LED chains and projectors.

Do I need a cloud or a licence server?

No. Licence, project and media are on the server in your building. The installation runs without an internet connection. You enable remote maintenance when you need it.

Who plans and installs?

We do, if you wish: check surfaces and lighting conditions, count and place projectors, bill of quantities for the tender, installation, alignment, content coordination and briefing of your team. Or your integrator, whom we support.

Can I rent a server for a trade-fair week?

Yes. We rent FXServer, GastspielServer and StageDesigner licences for days, weeks or the duration of an exhibition, with operator and technical support on request. Rental is credited on purchase.
