Immersive rooms & museums

Wall, ceiling and floor as one image

Immersive rooms, panoramic projections and permanent installations run for months fully automated. One FXServer drives up to 16 projectors, soft edge and black level join the surfaces, and the schedule follows the opening hours. We plan, coordinate the content, install and align.

Why immersive rooms

An experience for the group, not for the headset

Unlike virtual reality, visitors share an immersive room together. Projection, animation and sound turn spectators into participants, and content stays in memory longer. Museums and science centres extend their exhibits, exhibition designers set a prelude or finale, brands tell a story in a room instead of on a screen.

  • Museums and exhibitions: themed rooms, special exhibitions, projection onto exhibits
  • Science centres and learning environments: interactive rooms with sensors and buttons
  • Art: walk-in video works, 360-degree panoramas including the floor
  • Brands and showrooms: the product in the room, content changed on a schedule
What a room needs

Seamless, quiet, for months

Projectors by room size

The number of projectors follows surface and resolution. High-brightness units make blackout and screens unnecessary; modern laser projectors run up to 20,000 hours maintenance-free.

One server, all surfaces

4 to 16 outputs from one FXServer, several servers in sync for large rooms. Hardware EDID management keeps the output configuration even after a projector is replaced.

Soft edge and black level

Overlaps are blended, residual light equalised, corners and floor corrected in perspective. Masks cut out doors and exhibits.

Schedule instead of staff

The show starts at opening time, projectors are switched per cue, everything shuts down in the evening. After a power cut the server restarts automatically.

Equipment room and long runs

The server sits in the equipment room, visitors hear nothing. Signals travel over SDI, fibre or HDBaseT; small rooms get the super-quiet GastspielServer.

Remote access and support

StageDesigner reports status and errors to the network. You enable remote maintenance when you need it. Reply from the manufacturer on the same working day.

How the playout works

Swap content without rebuilding the show

In StageDesigner the media sit in the preload; the playlist holds only the sequence with references to them. A new film for the special exhibition is swapped in, mapping and schedule stay. Existing content is adapted to the room geometry with the mapping tool, by us if you wish.

  • Playlist with time control, loops and transitions
  • Interaction via buttons, sensors, tablets: OSC, TCP/UDP, DMX, JavaScript
  • Live images over NDI or SDI, for example from the lab or the workshop
  • Multichannel audio up to 64 channels, Dante optional
  • No cloud, no licence server: licence and content stay in the building
From idea to opening

Four phases, one contact

1 · Concept

Check the surface, plan the technology

Suitability of the room, lighting conditions, number and position of projectors, signal paths, cost frame. Bill of quantities for funding application or tender.

2 · Content

Images, animation, film

Production in-house or through our artist network, coordination with curators and designers, adaptation to the room geometry.

3 · Installation

Set-up, alignment, acceptance

Mounting, cabling, mapping and soft edge on site, schedule set up, documentation and briefing of your team.

4 · Operation

Keep it running

Remote maintenance, support on the same working day, free trainings for new staff, content updates for the next exhibition.

Frequently asked

Media servers in the exhibition

How many projectors can one server drive for an immersive room?

Up to 16 outputs from one FXServer. For larger rooms several servers run in sync: at the Lighthouse Berlin five FXServers drive 40 projectors on 100 m² including the floor.

Does the installation run automatically during opening hours?

Yes. Schedules start and stop the playout and switch the projectors, and after a power cut the server restarts automatically and loads the project. StageDesigner reports status and errors to the network.

What happens if a projector fails?

Hardware EDID management keeps the output configuration. A replacement unit is connected and the mapping for that output stays. For critical installations a second server with the same project stands by.

Can visitors interact with the installation?

Yes. Buttons, sensors, tablets and apps control cues via OSC, TCP/UDP or JavaScript. Cameras deliver live images via SDI or NDI.

Who produces the content?

We do, if you wish, together with your curators and designers or through our artist network. Existing content is adapted to the room geometry with the mapping tool.

What does an immersive room cost?

The media server starts at €14,637 (FXServer) or €5,831 (GastspielServer for small rooms). Projectors, mounting and content depend on the room. With a floor plan and running time we prepare a cost frame for your funding application.
